Dr. N. Lingaiah obtained. B. Sc (1987) M. Sc, Chemistry (1989) from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He did Ph. D work at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad and obtained Ph D degree from Osmania University in 1995 in the area of catalysis. He worked as post doc at Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), Taejon, South Korea (one year), Okayama University, Okayama, Japan (two and half years) and The Queens University of Belfast, UK (one year) before joining as scientist position at IICT, Hyderabad in the year 2001. Presently he is working as Principal Scientist at IICT, Hyderabad.
Academic and Research Achievement:
Dr. Lingaiah studied the basic aspects of the metal catalysis for the hydrodechlorination of chloro aromatic pollutants to useful compounds. His work in understanding the role of acidic and metallic properties of the catalysts for glycerol hydrogenolysis is significant. His publications in this area are highly cited and his paper in Applied Catalysis A: journal was listed under top 20 publications for last five years. His research work on heteropoly acids as acid and oxidation catalysts received international appreciation. He contributed a book chapter on heteropoly acids as green catalysts for the synthesis of fine chemicals. Based on his research publications, Indian chemical companies came forward to sponsor new projects.
He was the core member of the IICT research team which developed process for production of pyrazinamide, an anti-TB drug, enabling India to achieve self-sufficiency in its manufacture. Dr. Lingaiah developed an indigenous solid acid catalyst for the conversion of waste plastics in to fuel oil. This work is significant both from societal and environmental considerations. This technology was successfully transferred to the industry. He has collaborations with many international researchers and worked in countries like USA, France, Japan, Korea, Germany and England.
