Basic Research :

Significant scientific contributions are made to the activity of advanced process control through the development of novel control strategies which include nonlinear controllers, model predictive controllers, fuzzy learning and predictive controllers, neural network and radial basis function network controllers. Novel methods are developed for process fault diagnosis involving quantitative, qualitative, hybrid, neural network, fuzzy reasoning and principle component analysis techniques. Significantly contributed to the activity of optimal state estimation in the way developing new state and parameter estimation strategies based on linear and nonlinear Kalman filters, linear and nonlinear observers, and stochastic techniques. The performance of such novel methods are evaluated by applying to the process systems like distillation columns, reactive distillation columns, catalytic reactors, unstable and chaotic chemical reactors, pH processes, bioreactors and pulping digesters. These fundamental/theoretical contributions have resulted publications in various chemical engineering journals of international repute.

Applied Research :

Involved in developing efficient dynamic models and advanced process control strategies for real time operation of nonlinear chemical processes. Actively worked with various sponsored research projects in different capacities such as principal investigator for a project on “advanced real time process control technology for batch reactors” sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, activity leader for the process control part of a project on “automation of chemical reactors in pharmaceutical industries” sponsored by DCSSI, Ministry of Industry, Govt. of India under UPTECH program for pharmaceutical industries in A.P., principle investigator for a project on “intelligent hybrid control system for complex processes” awarded as prolog to discovery program of IICT, CSIR under new idea fund scheme and team member for a sponsored project of “benzaldehyde production”.
