Bhamidipati Venkata Surya Koppeswara Rao popularly known as BVSK Rao, born in a small village called PALIVELA in East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh on October 1, 1959. Married Ms. Vijayalakshmi in 1988 and blessed with a girl child Sai Poojitha. Presently Poojitha is doing her Graduation.

Joined Regional Research Laboratory on June 3, 1980 as Junior Laboratory Assistant in Oils and Fats Division.

Presently working as Principal Technical Officer in Lipid Science and Technology (formerly Oils and Fats) Division.

Research Interests

Present Research

• Screening of unknown and lesser known oilseed

• Development of alternative methodologies for the preparation of biodiesel from a variety feed stocks using both conventional, non-conventional and bio-catalysts

•Development of novel methodologies for the refining of vegetable oils

•Preparation of novel surfactants from castor oil, plant proteins and fatty acid derivatives

•Development of methodologies for the preparation of lubricant base stocks from vegetable oils particularly from castor oil

•Modification of phospholipids using chemical and enzymatic routes

•Value added products from the by-products of vegetable oils and oilseeds processing industries

•Isolation and characterization of bioactive lipid molecules from a variety of plants

•Modification of lipids for specialty applications

•Development of newer analytical methods

Past Research

Working in Centre for Lipid Research of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, India since 1980. Actively involved in designing and execution of different R&D projects sponsored by various Government and Private agencies. Well versed with isolation, synthesis and characterization of lipids. Conversant in conventional and modern chromatographic, spectral and analytical methods involved in Lipid Science area. Developed modern synthetic methodologies for the preparation of various lipids and their derivatives. Expertise in up-scaling the laboratory scale processes to pilot scale and have capability in fine-tuning the existing technologies.
